AVINASH RAVISHANKAR

I started my career as a mechanical engineer at Oxy Oil & Gas, working on pipeline integrity and risk modeling systems. I fell in love with the software we were using and realized I wanted to be on the other side—building the tools, not just using them.

That curiosity led me to startups. I co-founded muvve, a fitness marketplace, and later worked on products ranging from a data science learning management system at daytum to drones with image recognition ML at Mesos, and construction project management software at TaskTag. Through these experiences, I learned go-to-market strategies, fundraising, and how to build products that people actually want to use.

After years of managing products and teams, I wanted to get technically sharper. I was recruited to manage data science and ML tools, but I realized I wanted to understand the underlying models and algorithms at a deeper level. I'm currently pursuing a Master's in Data Science at Rice University (expected graduation December 2026), where I'm combining my engineering background with modern data science, machine learning, and AI.

Now I'm looking for summer 2026 internships where I can develop my technical skills in data science while bringing a unique perspective—someone who understands both the engineering fundamentals and the product decisions that make technical work valuable.
